White Dragon Bay is a landscape subordinated to Dongtai Community, Wanggezhuang Street. It is located in the foot of Biaoshan Hill of Laoshan Mount, east neighboring to the sea, west bordering on the Street Office of Xifu Town, Chengyang District, north leaning upon Qiaoshan Town, Jimo city, 8km away from Yangkou Landscape, 1km away from Binhai Highway. And there is Dongtai Station for Bus 106, 109, 312, and 371. The traffic here is very convenient. Dongtai Community has hill area over 5,700 Mu, which are distributed in south and southwest of the village. The land is fertile with plentiful rainfall and long sunshine time. Now there are many trees on hills including pine, Japanese black pine, larch, acacia, chestnut, date, frutex, and arbor. Along with the nearing to spring, rhododendron, white jasmine, mushroom, and grassleaf daylily will spread all over the hills. And fist vegetable is the most famous vegetable. Fist vegetable is also called, brake, chicken toe vegetable, long-lived vegetable, etc. It belongs to fern, perennial herb, root stock, rampancy under ground with brown fuzz. The stem contents amylum and it’s esculent. It’s far away from pollution and more clean and healthy. It can be picked up in the last ten-day of a May. The leaf is single and curling like a fist. So it was given the name of fist vegetable. Both fresh and dried brake is esculent and cooked by hot water, then being fished out and dehydrated, and boiled with pork, chicken. The dish with brake is not only fragrant, fresh, smooth, and delicious with high nutrition, but also is good for alleviating diuresis and allaying a fever. Eating brake constantly can refresh one’s eyes and spirit, beauty faces, drive away disease and prolong lives. So it is called longlived vegetable. It is really a precious grew in hill and the dried brake is savable. There are tens of medical materials grew in hills. Here and there spread balloonflower, bistort rhizome, distal branch, fragrant solomonseal rhizome, etc. In blooming season, the local people can pick up the medical materials freely. In recent years, few people pick up the medical materials. The land here is fertile, so it is suitable for the growth of all kinds of flowers, grass, and trees. Biaoshan Hill is one of the highest peaks of the north foot of Laoshan Mount. The altitude of Biaoshan hill is about 600 meters. Overlooking Biaoshan hill from long distance place and you will see that there are up-and-down chains of mountains, hugged hills, cliff, stones and peaks in various shapes, stone walls and stone caves, group birds, hares, badgers, etc, and lots of legends. The forest here is flourishing and grass spreads everywhere where are suitable for the growth of squirrel, monkey, and birds. It’s a place with picturesque scenery and beautiful view, and a place that people are reluctant to part with.
Stepping into Dongtai village, what entering into people’s first sight is a thousand-year locust tree who is called “the First Locust Tree north of the Changjiang River”. By now the tree is still in leafy profusion and filled with energy and flexibility. 1km going to the southwest, it is the Bailongwan. Bailongwan Reservoir was constructed by Laoshan District Government and finished in 2004. It occupies a commanding position with automatic flows into the canal. The water here is clear and high quality. It is the source of drink water of Dongtai people.
Around White Dragon Bay Reservoir, there are peaks on top of peaks, and many natural landscapes such as ShiYaQuan, ZhaiMenGu, DongDaJiang, GuoYaoShi, LaoShuYu, MaiErJian, DiShuiYuanZi, DuGu Nunnery, etc entrench here. Climbing up and you will see cliffy and sharp ChangJiang, DuanJiang, DaoJiang, GouJiJian, XiBeiCha, DouPo, DaBiao Hill, ErBiao Hill, SanBiao Hill. SanBiao Hill is the highest hill in DongTai prefecture. There had been a doggerel said that “Wide DaBiao Hill, Sharp ErBiao Hill, SanBiao Hill faces to White Dragon Bay”. 
In front of SanBiao Hill, there are BiaoBei, Monk Stone, JiDou Stone, Yellow Plaque, XiTai, KuanKouZi, ZhaiKouZi, and ShiXiaZi.
For the name of each hill, there had been a history or story. North of SanBiao Hill is SiMaJian, by now there has been a tens of meters stonewalling on the peak. It is said that, long time ago, the rich people built high stonewalling on cliffy positions to defend the robbery and kidnap of banditi and guard their properties. One time, banditi came and the rich people defended the banditi here with stones. They fight off the banditi and turn the corner. At the bottom of the stonewalling, there’s a swamp and a well. It is said that there had been a family at the foot of the hill. The wife didn’t get pregnant for many years. In the later afternoon of a summer, the wife was washing clothes by the river when suddenly a gentle wind blew away, then the wife got pregnant, and gave a baby born in the next year. But the feature of the child was so strange. It was black from heat to foot, had horn on head, tail on ass, and covered by squama everywhere. It got out through window. Six days later, the father saw it when it got back and ate breast milk. The father cut its tail with reaping hook. The child couldn’t bear the pain and got out of the house, got a grabbing on DongShan, then got another grabbing on XiShan, and a well appeared. The well didn’t get dry all the year round. The water in the well was clear and sweet. Now there is still trace of the well. The people who pick up grass on hills can still drink water here.
The hills in south are comparatively flat. There are pictographic stones such as HuLing, DouLing, DaJianJiang, ErJianJiang, BoJi, NanPo, YuLinTou, FenDouZiTou, DaKou, XiaoKou, HuangShiGu, FengLiangShi, FenZiShi, Window Stone, Monkey Stone, etc. and ShuYang Cave.
All in all, there are lots of hills and popular stories or legends in DongTai Community, especially the mysterious folk stories. In future, we will file high quality legend, stories perfect them constantly, and carry them forward to better serve the society and tourism. |
